You can experience high levels of grief and loss when you really wanted your little boy but you are having a girl. Remember you are allowed to feel hurt and intense pain for not having your dream fulfilled. People can feel intense grief if the desired gender is not experienced.  Some people may not value the experience of being a parent to a son as much. It is very normal to have a desire for a particular gender and it does not mean you are ungrateful and that you ‘should’ be satisfied with any gender. 

Some people hold onto the grief of not having a son their whole life. This grief can impact both men and women very intensely. This can result in many couples having so many more children than they ever wanted or can cope with to keep trying for a boy. It can become obsessive for some people. The drive and determination for that son. So many women have their life taken over by reading forums and any piece of information that helps conceive that boy. It is like a carrot dangled in front of you where you feel a sense of hope and bliss if you only have this son. Your internal dissatisfaction and pain can also have a profound impact on your daughter’s life. If your child hears any negative gender related comments, and kids are amazing at picking up on the smallest cues, this can result in feeling internal shame. The feeling they don’t know why they are not good enough, not okay or faulty. This level of damage can last a lifetime. You will learn about what grief is, the different stages of grief and the common symptoms people display when faced with grief. It is very reassuring to understand what is happening to you and the grieving process.

PART 2 – LEARNING TO RELEASE PAINFUL EMOTIONS SAFELY

You will learn strategies to manage emotional distress and grounding steps to bring yourself emotionally back into a safe place.

PART 3 – DESCRIBING YOUR JOURNEY

This part is made up of a series of in-depth questions which allow you to process the journey of not having a son.

PART 4 – DELVING INTO THE RELATIONSHIP YOU WANTED WITH YOUR SON

This part focusses on the relationship you imagined with your son. You will have the opportunity to explore your hopes and dreams of the son you wanted. 

PART 5 – EXPRESSING FEELINGS

It is important to be able to express how you are feeling. Anger, sadness and guilt are some key feelings that you will be able to express here.

PART 6 – RESOLVING YOUR INNER CONFLICT

It is very powerful to express what you are still holding onto and to resolve the inner conflict. This part guides you to express your pain and release any emotions. 

PART 7 – THE LETTING GO PROCESS

This section focuses on letting go methods in order to explore the next chapters of your life. 

PART 8 – GOAL SETTING

Setting new goals for your life is a powerful start to your future and it prevents being stuck or feeling hopeless and helpless. This can prevent feelings of depression as it guides you to new goals you will design for the next steps of your life.
